Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

About the Role

Join Virgin Australia’s Group Strategy team and play a key role in shaping the future of Australia’s most loved airline. Reporting directly to the Head of Group Strategy, this is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to develop their consulting and/or strategy skillset by contributing to strategic initiatives, supporting senior executives, and helping rebuild a highly successful airline.

As an Associate, you’ll work closely with the team to support Virgin Australia’s strategic objectives, gaining exposure to a wide variety of business challenges and opportunities. This role is ideal for someone with 2-5 years of experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, or a related field, who thrives in dynamic and fast-paced environments.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting Strategy Development: Help shape Virgin Australia’s strategic direction and positioning to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Driving Analysis: Conduct detailed analyses, synthesize large data sets, and develop insights to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborating on Projects: Assist with small-to-medium-sized cross-functional projects, working closely with general managers and key stakeholders.
  • Providing Decision Support: Deliver critical analysis for business decisions, applying financial and strategic frameworks.
  • Crafting Deliverables: Prepare executive-level presentations and clear, compelling recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Contributing to Execution: Support the implementation and continuous development of Virgin Australia’s strategic initiatives.
  • Learning and Growing: Gain valuable experience working on high-impact projects while developing your skills in strategy, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

We’re looking for a motivated, analytical, and ambitious professional with:

  • 2-5 years in management consulting or professional services strategy consulting at a major consulting firm (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Oliver Wyman, Deloitte), preferably with experience in transportation or airline projects; or 2-5 years in corporate strategy within aviation, transportation, or similar sectors.
  • Proficient in financial modelling, data analysis and problem-solving.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a natural aptitude for working with numbers.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • An advanced tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Commerce, Mathematics / Statistics, Engineering etc.)
  • An interest in aviation is advantageous but not essential.

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road. Our Sydney and Perth offices are located in prime CBD locations.
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
