What you’ll be doing
The objective of the Group Strategy Senior Associate role is to help define Virgin Australia’s path to success, positioning the airline competitively for our guests whilst delivering measurable impact. The Group Strategy team at Virgin Australia provides strategic analysis, commercial insights, and expert consulting to guide the airline's long-term direction. As a centralised team, we balance priorities across multiple business units to deliver the best, most balanced outcomes for the entire organisation. Through data-driven analysis, commercial acumen, and close collaboration with senior leaders, the Group Strategy team charts a course for sustainable growth and operational excellence that underpin the airline's commercial success.
Further responsibilities:
- Define and refine what success looks like for Virgin Australia, ensuring the airline is positioned effectively for guests and remains competitive in the market.
- Lead the design, analysis, and execution of major strategic and transformational initiatives across the organisation
- Drive the prioritisation and resourcing of initiatives within the Group Strategy team and broader organisation
- Conduct and oversee robust strategic analysis to deliver actionable recommendations for key business challenges
- Lead financial analysis, including airline operating economics, to evaluate and inform strategic opportunities and decision-making
- Oversee the development of business cases, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and financial viability
- Prepare and deliver high-quality executive-level presentations that clearly articulate insights, analysis, and recommendations
- Collaborate effectively with senior leaders, general managers, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on strategic goals
- Support the communication and embedding of organisational strategy across the business
You’ll be great in this role if you have…
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Commerce, Engineering, Economics, Statistics)
- At least 5+ years in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, or a related field
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Expertise in financial modelling and business case development
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and initiatives
- Familiarity with airline operating economics, competitive positioning, and key success drivers is advantageous
