The Visual Interaction Designer will be a formative member of a small tight knit but growing experience design team, tasked with uplifting and in some instances re-imagining Virgin Australia’s interface and visual design of the digital customer experience across web and mobile app channels.
As a Senior – Lead UI/Visual Designer, you will play a central role working with several digital squads, applying best practice design methodologies, working hand-in-hand with UX as well as independently to solve for the end-to-end user experience. In the process of delivering pixel perfect UI you work cross functionally with other designers and squad team members, while managing both internal and broader organisational stakeholders. You can clearly communicate your designs through prototyping and storytelling.
Role deliverables:
  • Evaluate, plan and implement appropriate UI & visual design methodologies and processes for any given brief, problem, opportunity or project work handed over from UX 
  • Repurpose or create new visual design assets as appropriate, balancing time constraints and desired outcomes
  • Participate in research, visual design exploration, workshops, ideation, and usability testing
  • Collaborate and consult with developers on designs and feasibility
  • Develop and deliver high fidelity designs to developers with annotation or appropriate levels of documentation
  • Design for complex multiple states including member tiers/points & currencies/booking types, including foreign language design
  • Work within established design guidelines and best practices of
    the design team
  • Contribute to building and expanding design system
  • Collaborate with UX and Service Design team members in creating design process assets such as journey maps, personas and story boards
  • Transform UX design artefacts and deliverables by applying best practice UI and visual design to outputs and deliverables
  • Preference for and experience in transparent and collaborative ways of working


What we need:

You are an active contributor, knowing when to stick to the brief and when to suggest an alternative direction or approach. You love staying up to date with best practice UI standards for accessibility and various platforms (android, iOS, web), are flexible and versatile in your ways of working as well as your methods and tools. You are motivated and willing to adapt and learn something new if required, while being set up for success and supported to do so.
Digital design will be at the core of your conceptual thinking with a focus on outstanding UI capability, underpinned by solid UX principles.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in design in a team or across multiple teams, preferably
  • Between 3 - 6 years experience in commercial design (e.g. ecommerce) on agency or client/corporate side
  • Proven experience driving changeand advocating new ways of working
  • Mastery in Sketch, XD, Figma or equivalent, Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping tools
  • Demonstrated experience of applying UI & Visual Design in the identification and use of various techniques to achieve measurable
    improvements, outcomes and conversion
  • Understanding of the capabilities of HTML, CSS and modern front-end frameworks that relate to design (e.g. REACT)
  • Demonstrated experience in visual design, front-end development and interaction design
  • Demonstrated experience and skills to educate those less familiar with the creative process, including the ability to translate users’ goals and behaviour into visual and UI designs
  • Demonstrated expertise designing interactions professionally for the web and mobile
