What you’ll be doing
The Leader Safety Standards position is responsible for designing, implementing and improving policies and procedures within Virgin Australia’s Safety Management System (SMS), including the operational risk and change management processes. By aligning workflows with robust safety protocols and regulatory standards, the role strengthens operational resilience and drives continuous improvement. Leveraging data and structured governance, the Leader Safety Standards enables informed decision-making, champions accountability, and supports our commitment to delivering a safe, seamless, and trusted experience.
This role is a 12 month Maximum Term contract and is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of safety systems, regulatory frameworks, and a proven ability to drive investigations, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration in a high-paced operational environment.
Further Responsibilities:
- Accurately identify potential and actual hazards to operations and work collaboratively with divisional stakeholders to maintain risk
- Oversee quality and compliance of safety processes
- Assist in planning the strategic and operational implementation of new and revised regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain the systems, processes and procedures for change and risk management
- Ensure change management plans are developed and align to the company safety management system
- Facilitate risk assessments across operational divisions
- In consultation with operational divisions, develop policies and procedures to improve safety outcomes
- Manage non-conformance reports, implement corrective actions, and escalate significant risks
- Collaborate with teams and suppliers to enhance workflows and ensure operational efficiency
- Prepare and present detailed monthly and annual reports on compliance, safety, and quality performance, highlighting key trends and actionable insights
- Deliver training programs to ensure teams are equipped with the knowledge and skills to uphold safety, compliance, and quality standards
You’ll be great in this role if you have…
- Certificate or Diploma in Aviation, Safety, Risk, or Operational Management (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience in safety or compliance leadership role
- Strong communication, investigation, and reporting skills
- Ability to drive safety culture and influence operational behaviour
- Proficiency in documentation, process design, and corrective action tracking
- High attention to detail with ability to manage sensitive and high-impact issues
- Working knowledge of aviation safety standards and operational compliance frameworks is highly advantageous
