Hello. We’re Virgin Australia.

We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces.

We value real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions – and we’re looking for a Conformance Engineer – Safety to help keep our operation safe, compliant and continually improving.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll play a critical part in ensuring the ongoing safety, quality and regulatory compliance of Virgin Tech operations by investigating, analysing and reporting on safety‑related events and maintenance escapes.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Triage, investigation and reporting of safety‑related events, incidents and maintenance escapes
  • Participating actively in Virgin Australia’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Security Management System (SeMS), including hazard identification and reporting
  • Supporting internal and external audits, including conformance with CASR Part 145, and managing audit findings and corrective/preventative actions through Intelex
  • Providing advice and guidance to stakeholders on incident responses, safety risks and compliance matters
  • Preparing and contributing to safety and resilience reporting (including MSRRC, ESSRC and BSRRC reports)
  • Working closely across teams within Virgin Tech and the broader organisation to drive safety, quality and compliance outcomes
  • Promoting a strong safety culture by actively participating in safety shares, resilience initiatives and emergency response programs
  • Briefing leaders on issues requiring escalation from a regulatory or business risk perspective

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • A recognised qualification in incident investigation
  • Training as a Safety Auditor and/or Lead Auditor
  • Strong experience in aviation safety, quality or compliance within a CASA‑approved maintenance organisation
  • Demonstrated experience auditing or investigating operations within an RPT aviation environment
  • A solid understanding of CASR, aviation maintenance standards and safe operating practices
  • The ability to work independently, show strong judgement and communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong report‑writing skills, including the ability to present complex safety information to senior leaders

Highly regarded experience:

  • IOSA Auditor accreditation
  • Qualifications in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering or aviation maintenance disciplines
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IOSA auditing, and FAA/EASA regulatory frameworks
  • Experience working with TRAX and Intelex systems
  • Prior experience in SMS or similar safety roles

We’re committed to looking after you

We offer some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1,000 in annual travel credits)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style – work from home or the office to suit your needs
