We’re the airline that dares to be different, bold, down-to-earth and built around giving our guests real choice. Safety is our backbone, service is our heartbeat, and our people are our superpower.
At Virgin Australia, we’re on a mission to be Australia’s most loved airline, for our people, our guests and our owners, and we’re looking for passionate talent to help take us even higher.
We’re vibrant, authentic and unapologetically human. Here, you can bring your whole self, your Virgin Flair and your ambition to a team that champions individuality, innovation and a whole lot of heart. If you’re excited by meaningful work, real opportunities to grow, and a culture where you can genuinely make a difference, you’ll feel right at home with us.
Your Impact
In our Legal, Ethics and Governance Office, we help Virgin Australia do the right thing, in the right way, while enabling the business to move forward with confidence. We bring together sound judgement, practical governance and a clear focus on managing risk without creating unnecessary complexity.
As AI Governance Lead, you’ll play a key role in embedding practical, proportionate and sustainable governance for the responsible use of artificial intelligence across Virgin Australia Group. Reporting to the General Manager, Ethics and Compliance, you’ll provide enterprise-wide governance leadership, oversight and advice, helping ensure AI risks are identified, assessed, managed, monitored and escalated through the right business processes and governance forums.
This is an opportunity to take established AI governance arrangements and make them work effectively in business as usual. Rather than designing AI solutions or owning technical delivery, your focus will be on operating, embedding, maintaining and continuously improving the governance approach, while supporting clear accountability and informed decision-making.
You’ll work across the Group with the AI Centre of Excellence, Technology, Risk, Legal, Privacy, Information Security, Internal Audit and business leaders. Your work will help shape how AI is responsibly used in a highly regulated, safety-critical airline environment.
You’ll be involved in everything from AI use case intake, risk assessment and approvals through to ongoing monitoring, reporting, assurance and continuous improvement. You’ll also help maintain the Group’s AI inventory and risk information, coordinate governance forums and provide clear, practical advice to leaders and business owners.
Importantly, you’ll help make AI governance accessible and workable for the business by developing practical guidance, tools and communications, supporting capability uplift and keeping the organisation ready to respond as technology, regulation and external expectations continue to evolve.
About You
You’ll bring experience in AI governance and governance of automated or data-driven systems. You will have a depth of exposure in governance, risk, compliance and technology risk, ideally gained in a complex or regulated organisation. You’ll be comfortable operating governance frameworks in a business-as-usual environment and working with senior leaders, governance forums and diverse stakeholders.
You’ll have a practical approach to risk and governance, with the ability to take complex regulatory, technology or risk considerations and turn them into clear, workable processes and advice. You’ll be confident making sound judgements in areas where the answer is not always straightforward and know how to influence without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
You’ll be a clear and credible communicator, able to prepare executive and committee materials, facilitate conversations and build productive relationships across functions. You’ll also bring an analytical mindset, good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accurate governance records and follow-through.
A relevant tertiary qualification in law, risk, governance, technology, data, business or a related discipline is expected. Knowledge of enterprise risk management, governance, controls, assurance and ethics and compliance principles will be important, along with an understanding of the AI lifecycle and the ethical, legal, regulatory, privacy, security and safety considerations that come with emerging technologies.
