Ops Planning and Performance Analyst

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

The role:

The Operations Planning and Performance Analyst position aims to develop and evolve a suite of Operational performance reports in collaboration with Operations SMEs. These reports will enable the forecasting of Operational delivery to efficiently manage the flight schedule while meeting safety, financial, and operational metrics. You will model ‘what if’ scenarios, create cohesive presentations that narrate the data, and provide analysis to support recommendations across various streams within the COO's office.

In addition, you will work closely with stakeholders in Flight Operations, Inflight Experience, Airport Experience, the Integrated Operations Centre, Safety, WorkForce Planning, Engineering, and Finance. This work will support fact-based decision-making, KPI development, real-time tracking of Ops performance, nimble reporting, operational readiness, business case development, and service provider negotiations.

  • Automate reports on costs, productivity, capacity, and consumption using Excel, Power BI, or R.
  • Maintain detailed reports on KPIs, initiative tracking, and benefits, offering data-driven strategic recommendations.
  • Develop a comprehensive dashboard to display key performance indicators and metrics.
  • Use statistical methods to create data models for predicting and explaining trends to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Utilise Crew Management Systems for analysing pairing and rostering solutions, assessing costs, productivity, lifestyle factors, and fatigue management.
  • Build, enhance, and maintain accurate reporting structures/tools to enable impact analysis.
  • Develop and manage SLA’s with key customers and stakeholders.

What you need to be successful:

  • Demonstrated experience with data analytics to support strategic decision making.
  • Understanding of airline or similar logistical operations (desirable)
  • Experience developing bespoke dashboards for a function.
  • Developing data tools that both show current performance and forecast (or allow senior management to forecast) performance.
  • Developing data tools that allow for impact modelling.
  • Ability to collaborate with and advise multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to overlay complex technical requirements to provide effective reporting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PowerBI

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • A comprehensive Employee Assistance Program, which offers confidential coaching and support from qualified professionals for all aspects of life – physical, mental, social and financial
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
