What you’ll be doing

As a Regional Airports Manager, you will work within a specialist team who is responsible for providing leadership, expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders to enable the safe, efficient and effective operational delivery of Virgin Australia’s customer strategy across our Regional Airports. You will be responsible for operational outcomes across a portfolio of West Australian Airports, including oversight of Virgin Australia Group Ground Operations at Perth.

This position is based at Perth Airport and you will work under the direction of the Head of Airports - Regional & International, based at Head Office in Brisbane. This role will require some regular travel. 

Further responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the best commercial and operational results are achieved with a critical focus on safety and ultimate customer experience outcomes.
  • Work with contacted ground handlers and airport authorities s to deliver exceptional outcomes   
  • Manage operational outcomes against set contractual KPIs both independently and in collaboration with Commercial Partnerships Manager.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including executive and senior leadership teams.  
  • Execute adequate and appropriate response to business risks including safety occurrences, OTP, business resilience, and customer service delivery requirements.
  • Work to inspire safe work cultures within Ground Handling agencies, lead and own all safety related events and ensure compliance to Virgin Australia’s Safety Management System
  • Be based in Virgin Australia at T1D Perth however will the role will involve frequent travel within Western Australia and to VA Head Office in Brisbane from time to time.

Perth specific requirements:

Operational oversight and responsibility for all Virgin Australia Group Ground Operations in T1D & T2 at Perth Airport.

  • Oversight and operational accountability for the safe, efficient and effective performance of Virgin Australia Group Ground Operations at Perth Airport, as performed by our contracted 3rd party Ground Handler.
  • Own key stakeholder relationships with Virgin Australia Airlines, Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA), Perth Airport (PAPL), ground handler/s and represent Virgin Australia at all required forums and meetings that support airport operations.
  • Lead all airport related projects to ensure Virgin Australia operational requirements are considered.
  • Develop and embed relevant business continuity strategies to ensure seamless airport operations during any significant events.
  • Lead and implement all required change management activities.
  • Identify and implement synergies to strengthen all aspects of our partnership with Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Previous experience in the aviation industry is mandatory for this role
  • Strong and demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement across multiple aviation organisations, such as ground handlers, airport authorities, government agencies and regulators
  • Experience with SMS frameworks and in aviation Safety & Security management
  • Proven time management skills to manage multiple (and at times conflicting) priorities, whilst delivering strong outcomes
  • Experience in conducting business analysis and making detailed recommendations to positively impact customer, operational, safety and commercial outcomes.
  • Awareness of domestic and international airport Regulatory environments
  • A great team player who is inspirational, self-motivated and highly professional.  Have emotional intelligence with the ability to read, monitor and understand behaviours and respond effectively to affect positive outcomes
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change and learn quickly in evolving environments
  • Previous experience managing an outsourced provider is highly advantageous 
  • Ability to travel regularly and at short notice both interstate and internationally as required.
