Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. And we’re back (in a big way).

We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. For us, flying is so much more than simply taking off and landing (although we understand that is quite important). It’s about going the extra mile, in the air and on the ground, to create authentic experiences that put our guests firmly at the heart of everything we do.

What you’ll be doing:

Virgin Australia is embarking on a cross functional transformation program across scheduling, commercial planning and operations planning, to ensure we deliver industry leading operational performance, high levels of customer schedule utility and sustainably strong financial results.  To support this project, we have created this new, Network Strategy Lead position. This is a highly strategic role, where you will utilise both your analytical skills, as well as your strong stakeholder management skillset to help us drive Network enhancements that will drive value to our customers and maximising benefit to the Group.

Someone with a Management Consulting, Commercial or Aviation Network Planning background would be suitable for this position.

Further responsibilities:

  • Evaluate opportunities for network and capacity deployment, including new routes and destinations, fleet deployment options, strategic short term flying, and any ad-hoc strategic analysis related to the flying network of Virgin Australia
  • Recommend and implement network actions to drive revenue and cost enhancements to the Group
  • Engage with key stakeholders to identify, evaluate and implement potential network changes
  • Maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (Network Management, Revenue Management, Alliances, Finance, Airport Commercial, Sales, Strategy, Network Operations, Flight Operations, Customer Service Delivery, Security, Government Relations)
  • Use data modelling and in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis to provide evidence for any proposed changes (Excel skills are paramount)
  • Development of business cases for presentation to senior leadership team
  • Continuously improve existing network analysis processes to drive efficiency and accuracy of forecasting
  • Evaluate potential new industry data sources beneficial for network analysis
  • Develop & implement Network Planning models or systems to assist with analysis

You’ll be great in this role if you…

  • At least 3 years' professional experience in a Management Consulting, Commercial or Aviation Network Planning role
  • Experienced in strategic planning, creating meaningful insights from multiple data sources and delivering results to key stakeholders
  • Previous experience working on projects is highly advantageous
  • The ability to translate insight from analysis into tangible actions and recommendations
  • The ability to prepare and deliver succinct, easy to understand presentations
  • Experienced in communicating effectively at all levels, including senior management
  • Experienced in working in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to multi-task and prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Tertiary qualification in Aviation, Business, Mathematics, Economics, or similar is desirable
  • Expert user in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint (crucial to the role and tested throughout the recruitment process)

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
