Bring on wonderful careers.

We're on a mission to bring new and uplifting experiences to our guests, transforming flying from simply 'nice', to something wonderful.

Like any good mission, this one starts with our people.

Which is why we encourage our team to embody the fun, laid back, authentic spirit we've become famous for. Because when they're free to be themselves, they're better able to own their personal responsibilities and go the extra mile to help our guests.

People Advisor

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

We currently have an opportunity to join our People Advisory team. The position will be a 12-month maternity leave cover, based in Brisbane at our Southbank office.

This is a unique opportunity to join Virgin Australia in a broad and diverse role that is the first point of contact for all People matters. As a People Advisor, you will get exposure to the whole business and will provide generalist HR advice and support across the Virgin Australia Group. You will have the capability to resolve people related queries, providing high levels of customer service and professional HR advice while managing time and prioritising issues. You will also have experience managing lower complexity cases end-to-end, or a keen interest in developing in this area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide advice to managers and employees in the interpretation of workplace agreements and HR policies
  • Continue to monitor, review and implement changes to HR policies to ensure accurate and consistent information is provided to employees
  • Creation & distribution of HR documentation as required to support People matters
  • Provide coaching and advice to leaders in relation to conducting employee disciplinary processes
  • Advise and support managers regarding first tier grievance and conflict management
  • Ensure accurate and robust documentation of employee matters within the People case management tool
  • Support in the process of benchmarking roles, award assessments, letter generation & HR reporting and analytics
  • Work collaboratively with our Centres of Excellence i.e. Workplace Relations, Remuneration & Benefits & Organisation Development – to escalate and reallocate work as required to appropriate support tier.

What we're looking for:

  • A HR degree or studying towards a HR discipline and/or generalist HR/IR experience in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Exposure to or experience in, end to end case management of lower level cases
  • Experience communicating effectively at all levels within the business
  • Effective organisational and time management skills with the flexibility to work to SLA’s
  • An exceptional team player attitude, willing to help others out in order to deliver for the business
  • The ability to learn and effectively use a broad range of platforms/systems (Versa Case management, Live Tiles – Microsoft 365, SharePoint).

What you’ll get from us:

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a wellbeing app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you.
