Manager Technical Services

This role is based at the Virgin Australia Hangar in Brisbane.

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

As the Manager, Technical Services, you will play a critical role in ensuring the fleet’s compliance with Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and Engineering Orders (EOs). Additionally, you will lead the development and implementation of Part 21 Design Organisation capabilities, internalising functions currently outsourced to third parties. This transformational project is expected to deliver substantial cost savings and operational efficiencies.

In this role, you will oversee a multi-disciplinary Technical Services team that includes Powerplants, Mechanical Systems, Cabin Systems, Structures, Avionics, and In-Flight Entertainment (IFE). Upon achieving CASA approval for Design Organisation status, an additional team of Professional Engineers will join to support this expanded capability.

You will…

  • Maintain safety and compliance for all non-Aircraft Maintenance Program (AMP)-based tasks, including managing ADs, SBs, and EOs
  • Develop and implement a CASA-approved Part 21 Design Organisation within Virgin Australia, including creating the necessary manuals and internalisation plans.
  • Support operational reliability through collaboration with the Technical Services team, driving initiatives to meet On-Time Performance (OTP) targets.
  • Oversee the technical assessment and management of service literature, ensuring compliance and accuracy within the TRAX system.
  • Be Responsible to the Accountable manager for compliance with the Exposition

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • A bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in an engineering role, including at least 2 years of experience with design activities under Subpart 21.J of CASR or as an authorised person.
  • Strong working knowledge of civil aviation legislation, particularly regarding Part 21, Part 42, and Part 145 activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in technical disciplines.
  • A proven track record of working on increasingly complex engineering projects, delivering results on time and within budget.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high-performing team, contribute to transformational projects, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Virgin Australia’s engineering capabilities.
