Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Senior Group Accountant, you’ll take ownership of accounting services related to the costs of the Virgin Australia Group. Your work will be central to ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of our financial records, while upholding a strong internal control environment.
You’ll play a key role in the governance and integrity of cost recognition—managing associated liabilities, provisions, and prepayments across the Sub and General Ledgers. In addition, you’ll support and guide an offshore accounting team, ensuring consistent processes, high-quality outputs, and alignment with accounting standards.
This is a hands-on role that blends technical expertise with operational execution. You’ll contribute directly to accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and the continuous improvement of our accounting processes.
You’ll be great in this role if you:
- Are CA or CPA qualified, with 5–10 years of post-qualification experience in commercial or chartered environments
- Have recent experience in complex and technical accounting, with a strong understanding of current accounting standards
- Bring advanced Excel skills and are confident working with large data sets and financial models
- Have hands-on experience with Oracle Financials or other ERP systems, and thrive in a systems-driven environment
- Possess strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of influencing performance across finance teams
- Are highly organised, with excellent time management and the ability to juggle competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
- Communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally, with stakeholders at all levels
- Have a sharp eye for detail and the ability to analyse financial information to provide high-level advice and insights
- Are proactive and solutions-focused, always looking for ways to improve processes and drive efficiency
- Build strong working relationships and deliver exceptional service and support across diverse business units
- Have a solid understanding of management accounting in large, complex organisations
- Bring experience working in a multi-currency environment, aviation, or ASX-listed companies (highly regarded but not essential)
