We’re seeking a seasoned, commercially astute Head of Business Development to drive the strategy, growth and execution of partnerships that fuel Velocity Frequent Flyer’s success. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you’ll own the vision and delivery of a portfolio that spans financial services, everyday earn categories, and innovative new sectors.

We’re looking for a resilient leader and sophisticated dealmaker, ideally with experience in loyalty, financial services, or B2B ecosystems, who thrives in fast-paced environments and brings sharp strategic problem-solving skills.

In addition, you will:

  • Design and execute Velocity’s business development strategy to expand and diversify the partnership portfolio
  • Lead and inspire the business development team to deliver ambitious growth targets, drive market share and achieve long-term partner success.
  • Set up and embed CRM processes to ensure full visibility of the pipeline, track performance, and enable data-driven decision-making
  • Identify, negotiate, and secure strategic partnerships that expand the Velocity ecosystem and align with long-term strategic objectives.
  • Partner with the Velocity and Virgin Australia Business Flyer leadership teams to drive ongoing partner success and retention
  • Work closely with Marketing, Product, and Digital teams to create and launch differentiated member experiences
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform strategy.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on contract terms, historical agreements, and commercial frameworks

 

You’ll be great in this role if you:

  • Minimum 10 years sales / sales leadership experience selling into key sectors, ideally with a background in loyalty, financial services (specifically cards or payments) or B2B ecosystems.
  • Track record of success in securing and delivering multi-million-dollar partnerships, from lead generation through to contract execution
  • Strategic sales and negotiation experience, including the management of complex, high-value commercial agreements
  • Deep understanding of loyalty programs, airline frequent flyer ecosystems, and data-driven partner value creation
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders and C-Suite audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build, nurture, and maintain long-term C-suite level relationships.
  • Resilient and solutions-focused, bringing sound judgment, commercial acumen, and innovative problem-solving in challenging environments
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related discipline
