General Manager, Engineering & Maintenance

We are seeking a General Manager – Engineering & Maintenance to be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the airline’s engineering and maintenance operations. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer you will provide visionary leadership for the airline’s engineering and maintenance division. You will be responsible for developing long-term strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving technological advancements, and maintaining the highest safety and operational standards across the fleet.

The role requires a proven and inspiring leader with a distinctive track record of superior results. Experience at senior management or comparable General Manager level is essential. It is critical that this person can work in the dynamic and innovative Virgin Australia environment and build relationships across the organisation in a manner that inspires trust and credibility.

You’ll be great in this role if you…

  • Have extensive senior leadership experience in an airline engineering & maintenance or maintenance, repair & overhaul environment reporting directly into an executive leadership team.
  • Proven track record of delivering safe, compliant and cost-competitive asset life-cycle engineering and maintenance performance outcomes.
  • Ability to hold the CASA continuing airworthiness manager (CAM Pt42) role.  
  • Experience in leading large commercial negotiations and managing supplier performance management.  
  • Have experience leading large strategic initiatives and transformational change programs.
  • Communicate exceptionally well across all levels of a business and you have the ability to craft engaging, high- impact messages.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and uphold a positive reputation within a large organisation.
  • Have a strong ability to execute, leveraging capability of direct reports and others.
  • Have high level planning & organisational skills, as well as a systemic approach to business improvement.
