Head of Group Safety Assurance

What you will be doing

As our Head of Group Safety Assurance, you’ll lead the charge in ensuring our safety systems and processes are top-notch. Your focus will span across Virgin Australia Group operations, including Virgin Australia Regional Airlines. You’ll oversee risk-based audits, investigate incidents, and analyze key safety data, such as our Flight Data Program.

Location: Brisbane
Reporting to: General Manager, Safety Systems and Operations Support

As Head of Group Safety Assurance, you will....

  • Lead and Inspire: Coach and mentor a team of Safety Leaders and professionals.
  • Holistic Approach: Implement assurance activities that pinpoint areas for improvement, prioritized by risk.
  • Influence and Collaborate: Build strong, constructive relationships with senior managers to promote a culture of safety and quality.
  • Stay Ahead: Keep up with the latest safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Drive Excellence: Manage systems and processes that support risk-based safety oversight and compliance.

You'll be great in this role if you have: 

  • Safety Expertise: Formal qualifications in Safety Management or equivalent experience.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Training in areas like Human Factors, Fatigue, or Flight Data Analysis.
  • Audit & Investigation Skills: Experience as a lead auditor/investigator.
  • Regulatory Savvy: A thorough understanding of CASA regulations, including Parts 121, 42, 145, and 119.
  • Leadership Chops: Proven leadership experience within complex aviation operations.
  • Project Mastery: A track record of delivering complex projects and engaging teams and stakeholders.
