Senior UX Designer

About the role: 

Based out of the Virgin Australia HQ in South Brisbane, the Senior UX Designer role will support several guest-facing digital delivery squads that directly impact business revenue and guest experience. In this position, you will conduct User Experience Design (UX) practices as a specialty across web and mobile app channels.

In addition, you will:  

  • Support Virgin Australia's Digital team by applying UX Design principles and methodologies to identify and solve customer problems in the digital experience.
  • Develop user journeys by using data and voice of customer to surface pain points and opportunities to improve the digital experience. Proactively inform stakeholders both within and outside team and department with relevant and timely information.
  • Regularly in contact with users, actively advocates for them as part of the design process.
  • Develop, plan and lead UX design methodologies and processes for briefs, problems, opportunities or initiatives to arrive at successful customer and business outcomes.
  • Lead VA’s booking flow “test and learn” ideation process: Build on current best practice workshops to generate quality, easily understandable test hypothesis that aim to drive primary commercial outcomes (Flight conversion, Fare average order value, and ancillary product revenue) as week as key customer metrics (e.g. digital NPS)
  • Take prioritized test tickets (based on commercial benefit sizing and digital effort ratings) and generate UX/UI test designs that address the test hypothesis and maximize key primary commercial KPI’s and metrics, utilizing previous test learnings, and where relevant possible white label features that minimize future tech debt
  • Work with commercial and digital dev colleagues, accepting input to hone test designs that maximize likely commercial impact that require the least digital development.

What we're looking for:

  • Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design
  • Experience leading large projects with external clients or internal stakeholders managing expectations around scope, delivery and outcome. Facilitate design jams/sprints/workshops, applying findings to design thinking activities, drive shared understanding and collaborative design outcomes
  • Ability to get super creative and identify improvements within a highly constrained system
  • Ability to influence outcomes by gathering and balancing business rules, requirements and objectives with medium-complexity customer needs and technical feasibility or viability.
  • Ability to take their product from concepts to high-fidelity ready for handover
  • Experience in conversion using UX practices and optimisation
  • Bachelor degree in design field or equivalent work experience.
  • A strong portfolio of UX design work
  • Experience building foundational layout and typographic systems
  • Deep experience in interaction, prototyping, and complex design systems.
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops at all stages of the design process
  • Experience in liaising with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to align key project decisions.
