The Role:

The Duty Manager is accountable for ensuring the delivery of the daily operational schedule in line with Virgin Australia’s strategy. A priority is enabling our guests to travel as expected (safely and on time) and where disruption to our guests’ travel plans occur, this role is responsible for the end-to-end recovery to ensure the best possible guest experience is achieved, while balancing operational costs and our corporate key performance indicators (On Time and Completion).

The position is based at our Brisbane Head Quarters in South Bank and, you will work closely with the General Manager Integrated Operations Centre.

As a Duty Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Manage Virgin Australia’s daily operational budget to minimise increasing costs
  • Provide coaching and guidance to a team of 30+ operations staff
  • Management of network schedule, resources, cost and disruption events to achieve divisional performance metrics in line with the strategy.
  • Ensure resources are readied at ports that may be affected by disrupt events.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industrial, company and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and quality of processes in the Integrated Operations Centre
  • Be a trusted partner to the Group Crisis Chairs on threat assessments.

What you need to be successful:

  • In depth understanding of the principles of airline operations
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting team members with technical knowledge of airline Operations
  • Experience in leading a team towards achievement of key outcomes
  • Good understanding of both the broad and detailed objectives of the Operations Group and IOC divisions.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Natural desire and ability to motivate and inspire team members
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder relationship management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of aviation operations and related regulatory requirements
