Project Manager - Operations Transformation

What you’ll be doing
 
This is an exciting opportunity to take a Project Management role with a focus on Operational Projects within the exciting and fast-paced aviation industry. You will lead, design and execute discrete transformation initiatives that drive measurable value across the Operations Division through structured project delivery, business process optimization, and data-driven decision-making. 
 
This team acts as a strategic catalyst within Virgin Australia’s Operations division. The team governs and accelerates a portfolio of transformation initiatives that are hypothesis-driven, financially grounded and with delivery embedded in business line management. The team doesn't just deliver projects, they drive a scalable, repeatable transformation engine that converts business insights into tangible financial impact.
 
Further responsibilities include: 
  • Guide initiatives through our transformation initiative lifecycle 
  • Track initiative progress using established dashboards and enforce cadence for gate reviews
  • Contribute to development of the transformation roadmap by defining executable initiatives
  • Support roadmap development workshops and documentation of initiative value hypotheses
  • Support the transition of initiatives from the transformation office into accountable delivery within line operations
  • Track whether initiatives maintain traction post-handoff and raise risks if execution falters
  • Ensure disciplined, accurate, and complete reporting across several initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date entries in our transformation tracking system, linked to delivery milestones and benefit estimates
 
You’ll be great in this role if you have…
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Economics, Commerce, Mathematics / Statistics, Aviation, etc.)
  • 3-5+ years in professional services or consulting firms shaping business transformation initiatives (e.g. Big 4 or other consulting firms), or experience in business transformation roles. Please note, we are not looking for an IT Project Manager. 
  • High analytical acumen with ability to synthesise data into actionable insights
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) for executive engagement
  • Stakeholder management skills across technical and operational teams
  • Experience with defining or delivering initiatives in operational environments
  • Highly proficient in Excel (or equivalent) for benefit modelling
  • Familiarity with industrial economics concepts (i.e. unit cost modelling) is advantageous
