Who we’re looking for:
A high performing, mid-level lawyer with strong commercial contracting experience and a strong background in advising on regulatory compliance matters. To be successful in this role, you’ll be an excellent communicator, have strong commercial acumen, exceptional attention to detail and the confidence to manage a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
What you’ll be doing:
As a member of the Legal team within the Legal and Risk division, the Lead Legal Counsel will provide legal support to the Virgin Australia Group. Your role will include drafting and negotiating general commercial, procurement and operational contracts, reviewing marketing and promotional communications and advising on a broad range of legal and compliance risks, including competition and consumer law, spam and privacy. In this role, you’ll also support with the delivery of legal and compliance training to business team members, help drive process improvement initiatives and champion engagement with the Legal team.
You’ll be great in this role if you have these attributes:
- 4 – 7 years post admission experience working with an inhouse team or reputable law firm, with demonstrated expertise in contract drafting and negotiation and advising on large commercial transactions
- Experience advising on regulatory compliance issues, such as competition and consumer law
- Strong commercial awareness with an ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
- Proven experience in managing multiple internal and external stakeholders in a fast paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Great attention to detail, especially when under pressure
- A continuous improvement mindset and a knack for finding ways to simplify legal service delivery
- Are very comfortable working with Legal technology platforms and tools, including matter and document management systems, automation and AI tools.
