Payroll Team Leader

What you’ll be doing:

Virgin Australia Group Payroll thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced setting, handling a multifaceted payroll system that encompasses four legal entities and nine distinct payrolls. We integrate data from various time and attendance systems and manage multiple Enterprise Agreements, affecting every member of the Virgin Australia Group. Providing outstanding payroll experience We have an opportunity for an experienced Team Leader to join our growing team.

About the Role:

As a Team Leader – Payroll, you will play a critical role in ensuring all of our essential payroll delivery timelines are met, including accurate payroll processing and enhancing the efficiency and compliance of our payroll operations. You will provide overall leadership and support, managing end-of-life systems and bridging gaps in knowledge within the team. Your role will be focused on managing day-to-day processing delivery and also supporting change management, and transformation project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the BAU payroll team, acting as the second-in command (2IC) to our delivery function.
  • Support transformation projects and essential system changes ensuring smooth transitions
  • Utilise your deep knowledge of multiple payroll systems to drive improvements and efficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legislation, including income tax, payroll tax and superannuation
  • Manage a diverse team of 12 staff members, with separate portfolios handling weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay cycles
  • Interpret complex Awards and Enterprise Agreements and maintain strong attention to detail
  • Build strong and robust relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally

You’ll be great in this role if you:

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: At least 10 years in payroll with extensive experience in managing complex payroll systems. Working in a large organisation
  • Payroll Systems Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of multiple payroll systems and potential implementations.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of wage and hour laws, labour laws, and relevant regulations. Experience with Awards and Enterprise Agreements (EA) is preferred.
  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a team, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback
  • Technical Skills: Strong Excel capabilities and the ability to quickly learn new information, processes, and procedures
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize work and maintain confidentiality
  • Leadership Style: Hands-on initially, focusing on rebuilding structure and supporting processes while driving forward improvements
  • Balanced mix of BAU and project experience is essential, with the ability to build credibility and guide an established team of subject matter experts (SMEs).
