Reporting to the Head of Training and Standards, this pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of flight crew training and the effective management of all Training Pilots. As Fleet Training Manager, B737, you will play a key role in mentoring and supporting your crew, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and professional development. You will also ensure Virgin Australia has access to a team of highly skilled and qualified Training Pilots, helping to uphold operational excellence within the Boeing 737 fleet.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and appointment of Training Pilots to support fleet operations.
  • Provide the Head of Training & Standards (HTS) with updates on training device specifications and capabilities.
  • Monitor crew performance to ensure compliance with company standards for safety, technical proficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure all training activities are standardised and aligned with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in evaluating and developing flight crew proficiency, including recommending First Officers for promotion to Command.
  • Maintain communication with CASA and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Develop and update local work instructions for fleet training roles.
  • Support the HTS in regulatory compliance responsibilities, including managing VAA and VAI Part 121 training requirements.
  • Assist the Fleet Standards Manager (FSM) in developing and maintaining operational training materials and assessment programs.
  • Ensure sufficient training resources are available to meet the training schedule in partnership with Workforce Planning.
  • Act as a delegate for the HTS when required.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the training team and the broader Flight Crew community.
  • Provide strategic input to the Flight Operations Training & Standards team.
  • Collaborate with the HTS to develop performance and professional development plans for all Flight Crew

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2,000 hours on a high-capacity RPT jet or turboprop aircraft.
  • At least 1,000 hours in command of a B737NG/MAX.
  • Previous experience in Flight Operations management roles.
  • Previous Virgin Australia experience would be desirable
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and collaborate across various functions to achieve operational goals.
  • In-depth understanding of safety principles, aircraft operating systems, change management and operational processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian aviation legislation, including the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations and the Manual of Standards.
  • Strong grasp of departmental operational policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of both international and domestic airline operations.
  • Awareness of emerging regulatory changes affecting aviation in Australia.
  • Expertise in assessing and reporting on aircraft requirements and their impact on fleet operations.
  • Capability to critically evaluate safety regulations and legislation, providing insights into their potential impact on operations.
