What you’ll be doing
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Virgin Australia Technology function in a Leadership capacity. As the Senior Manager, Integration Platforms and Services, you will evolve and maintain the Integration Platforms to create integrity, maximise agility, accelerate modernisation, increase self-service and unlock efficiencies across Technology. This role is accountable for all integration engineering and for all products and services within the Integration Platform. It also provides necessary direction and support for “what" the integration team are building (APIs, microservices, etc.).
Further responsibilities include:
- Accountable to build, enhance and maintain the Integration Platform as a foundation for supporting business applications
- Maintain currency in technology trends and standards, and relevant security and compliance requirements including Privacy, GDPR, PCI
- Build, lead, support and manage a team of technical designers, developers, and platform engineers
- Resource and orchestrate work across multiple Business Domains and projects
- Act as the accountable platform owner for its products and services within the Integration Platform
- Provide necessary direction and support for “what” the squads are building
- Have accountability of multiple engagements / project delivery requirements
- Support as necessary the technical direction and aspects of product engineering across the team
- Act as a service custodian of the technology products/assets your platform will own, build, and run
- Accountable the overall cost centre budget and accountable project initiative approved funding
- Accountable for multiple leaders, designers and engineers that will collaborate to deliver projects/products that are aligned with Virgin Australia Group business objectives
- Articulate and communicate the platform vision, strategy, and roadmap to stakeholders
- Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
- Partner closely with other platform and engineering teams, understanding current and future platform features and being able to impart the business value of these to downstream digital and business teams
- Able to influence a broad and diverse set of stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively to all levels under pressure
- Run Governance, the Integration CoE and Socialisation forums, providing decision making, strategy, direction setting and constructive feedback and advice
You’ll be great in this role if you have…
- Bachelors or Masters’ qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- Extensive experience in an IT Leadership role responsible for engineering and support of enterprise integration platforms
- Sound understanding of microservices technology and architecture
- Effective in building senior and executive relationships with key stakeholders
- Very good communication skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to your audience
- Sound expertise in technology resource management
- Proven experience in delivering large scale integration platform initiatives
- Knowledge of API/integration/microservice principles, patterns and best practices, knowledge of SOA/ESB technologies, REST / SOAP web services, API gateways
- Proven expertise in directing the efforts of a technical staff
- Proven track record of leading high performing development teams, across different locations
- Experience in Kafka, Kubernetes, ServiceMesh, Apigee, Spring and GraphQL is desirable
- Strong knowledge of micro-services architecture and management frameworks (e.g. Istio on Kubernetes)
- Advanced knowledge of modern software development technologies and methods, particularly RESTful services, .js and the Java Spring Boot framework
