We're Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that dares to be different, bold, down-to-earth and built around giving our guests real choice. Safety is our backbone, service is our heartbeat, and our people are our superpower.

We’re vibrant, authentic and unapologetically human. Here, you can bring your whole self, your Virgin Flair and your ambition to a team that champions individuality, innovation and a whole lot of heart. If you’re excited by meaningful work, real opportunities to grow, and a culture where you can genuinely make a difference, you’ll feel right at home with us.

Our ambition is to build the airline people love, and world-class technology is central to making that happen. As we continue modernising our technology landscape, we're investing in a new Platform Engineering capability that will simplify software delivery and create better experiences for both our engineers and our customers.

What you'll be doing…

As Technical Product Manager - Platform Engineering, you'll own the product vision, strategy, priorities, adoption and outcomes for the capabilities that enable software delivery across Virgin Australia. Your primary customers will be our product engineering teams, and your role will be to understand their most material problems and ensure the platform team solves them in ways that create enterprise leverage.

You'll work across our cloud and Kubernetes runtime, reliability and observability capabilities, and developer platform and AI-enabled software delivery lifecycle. Partnering closely with engineering leads, cybersecurity, architecture, operations and product teams, you'll balance developer value, risk, technical feasibility, reliability and cost while avoiding a platform that becomes another approval layer or central delivery bottleneck.

  • Define the platform product vision, strategy, principles and outcome-based roadmap, translating enterprise objectives into clear problems and measurable product outcomes.
  • Lead continuous discovery with engineering teams using interviews, journey mapping, support insights and usage data to validate problems and identify adoption barriers.
  • Prioritise the platform portfolio and backlog using developer value, enterprise risk, adoption potential, technical feasibility, total cost and team capacity, making trade-offs explicit.
  • Partner with engineering leads on product decisions: you will own the problems, outcomes, priorities and adoption approach, while engineering owns technical design, quality and operability; delivery success is shared.
  • Plan product launches, migrations and enablement so teams can adopt capabilities incrementally, with clear documentation, support models and controlled alternatives where justified.
  • Measure and review adoption and outcomes such as onboarding time, lead time for changes, platform reliability, vulnerability remediation, developer satisfaction, support effort and unit cost.
  • Shape build, buy, vendor and lifecycle decisions using product economics and total cost of ownership, and use operational insights, incidents and feedback to continually improve or retire capabilities.

You'll be great in this role if ….

You're a product leader who is curious about how engineers work and pragmatic about where standardisation creates leverage. You move comfortably between developer research, technical discussions and executive trade-offs without prescribing engineering solutions.

You'll bring experience managing technical or platform products and a strong understanding of modern software delivery. You use evidence to make decisions, communicate uncertainty clearly and build trust across engineering, cybersecurity, operations and commercial teams.

To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • Strong experience managing technically complex platform, infrastructure or developer-facing products through their full lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated product discovery, strategy, roadmap and prioritisation skills, supported by customer research and product data.
  • Strong technical literacy across cloud platforms, Kubernetes, CI/CD, software engineering, reliability, cybersecurity and AI-assisted development.
  • Sound commercial judgement, including the ability to assess build-versus-buy choices, total cost of ownership, vendor trade-offs and ongoing support costs.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the judgement to align competing stakeholders and make difficult trade-offs visible.

Experience with internal developer platforms, developer research, product analytics, regulated enterprises or an engineering background would be highly regarded. Qualifications are welcome but not essential.
