Product Manager (Operations Data)

  • 510209
  • Brisbane, QLD, Australia
  • Full-Time (Permanent)

We’re the airline that dares to be different, bold, down-to-earth and built around giving our guests real choice. Safety is our backbone, service is our heartbeat, and our people are our superpower.

At Virgin Australia, we’re on a mission to be Australia’s most loved airline, for our people, our guests and our owners — and we’re looking for passionate talent to help take us even higher.

We’re vibrant, authentic and unapologetically human. Here, you can bring your whole self, your Virgin Flair and your ambition to a team that champions individuality, innovation and a whole lot of heart. If you’re excited by meaningful work, real opportunities to grow, and a culture where you can genuinely make a difference, you’ll feel right at home with us.

Your Impact

In our IT team, we’re the engine room that keeps Virgin Australia running smoothly, blending technical excellence with that signature Virgin spirit. We’re curious problem solvers who move fast, think smart and own our impact. Whether we’re delivering seamless digital experiences or strengthening the systems that keep our operation flying, we do it with discipline, heart and a healthy dose of innovation.

As our Product Manager (Operations Data), you’ll own the roadmap and strategic direction for data products supporting our Operations teams.

This is a highly influential role sitting at the intersection of Operations, Data and Technology. You’ll act as the key conduit between the Operations business and the Data delivery team, making sure the right problems are being solved, priorities are clear and the squad is focused on the work that creates the greatest value.

Your focus will typically look 6–18 months ahead: understanding what is coming, researching opportunities, shaping the product vision and roadmap, and turning business needs into a clear sequence of priorities for delivery.

Initially, your product portfolio may include our Operational Data Foundation, helping determine which operational data should be brought into platforms such as Databricks and in what order. Over time, this may also extend to products such as reports, dashboards, machine learning models, analytical processes, business context layers and data dictionaries.

You’ll:

  • Own and evolve the product strategy, vision and roadmap for Operations Data
  • Act as the primary interface between Operations stakeholders and the Data delivery team
  • Understand business problems deeply and translate them into clear product priorities and outcomes
  • Scope incoming work and prioritise the backlog based on value, business need, effort and strategic alignment
  • Maintain a forward-looking roadmap, balancing immediate requirements with longer-term opportunities
  • Partner closely with the Data Delivery Lead to determine what should be delivered next
  • Work with Operations Value Owners, General Managers and technology leaders to align priorities and outcomes
  • Capture expected benefits and help ensure delivered products are creating measurable value
  • Establish and run effective product ceremonies, governance and decision-making forums
  • Track delivery risks, budget, dependencies and squad throughput
  • Leverage Technical Leads and specialist teams to shape viable solutions and understand technical implications
  • Provide clear direction to Product Owners or delivery teams, where these roles are in place
  • Remain involved in delivery where required, particularly where there is no dedicated Product Owner
  • Take overall ownership for requirements coming from the Data team in support of the Operations domain

You’ll be great in this role if you…

You’re someone who can see the bigger picture without losing sight of what needs to happen next. You’re naturally curious, confident working across different parts of a business and comfortable making decisions in complex environments.

You don’t necessarily need to come from aviation or even from a data-specific product role. Strong product capability, judgement and the ability to influence are more important than having followed one particular career path.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience working as a Product Manager or in a similar product, digital, data or technology role
  • Strong experience shaping product strategy, roadmaps and prioritisation
  • The ability to understand how different systems, teams and business processes interact across a broader ecosystem
  • Strong commercial and product judgement, with the ability to use both data and context to make sound decisions
  • A high level of ownership and the confidence to make decisions, escalate where needed and delegate effectively
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • The ability to work as the link between business teams and technical delivery teams
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience managing competing priorities
  • A growth mindset and genuine curiosity about adjacent disciplines, technologies and business domains
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence

Experience working with data products, analytics, Databricks or operational systems would be advantageous, as would experience in aviation, but neither is essential.
