Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing…

As a Platform Architect (Customer Identity) you’ll work within Virgin Australia’s Security Platform team, helping shape how our customers securely access our systems.

In this role, you’ll take identity integrations from concept through to production. You’ll partner closely with application teams, identity architects, and platform engineers to onboard customer-facing applications onto the CIAM platform.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and lead the CIAM platform strategy, architecture, and roadmap for Virgin Australia, leveraging the PingOne Customer SaaS platform and DaVinci orchestration
  • Design and deliver secure, scalable customer identity solutions that integrate across digital channels, partners, and enterprise systems
  • Build and optimise DaVinci workflows to orchestrate end-to-end customer identity journeys (registration, authentication, MFA, account recovery, progressive profiling)
  • Drive platform standards, patterns, and reusable frameworks for CIAM across the organisation, aligned with enterprise architecture and security requirements
  • Implement and govern modern identity protocols, including OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML, and JWT, ensuring secure-by-design authentication and authorization patterns
  • Drive platform standards, patterns, and reusable frameworks for CIAM across the organisation, aligned with enterprise architecture and security requirements
  • Collaborate with domain architects, engineers, and delivery teams to ensure identity solutions are effectively integrated across platforms (cloud, APIs, microservices)
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders—shaping identity strategy, influencing decisions, and ensuring alignment to long-term platform roadmaps
  • Manage technology risk, compliance, and security posture across CIAM, including privacy, token security, and customer data protection
  •  Support solution design, estimation, and architecture governance, ensuring high-quality delivery aligned with Virgin Australia standards

You will be great in this role if you have…

  • Experience working with business and technology teams to support systems, projects or operations
  • Strong experience as a Platform or Solution Architect, with a background in software engineering (full stack, ideally Java)
  • Possess strong knowledge of identity standards and protocols, including OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML, and JWT token design and validation
  • Have experience defining and delivering platform strategies, roadmaps, and multi-year investment plans
  • Are comfortable designing API-first, cloud-native, and microservices-based architectures
  • Can define and enforce architecture standards, patterns, and best practices across multiple teams and initiatives
  • Have a proven ability to influence stakeholders and guide delivery teams across complex enterprise environments
  • Bring strong communication skills and can clearly articulate complex identity and security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable…

  • Experience architecting customer identity journeys at scale, including adaptive authentication, risk-based access, and fraud integration
  • Knowledge of advanced DaVinci orchestration patterns, event-driven identity flows, and API integrations
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerised environments (e.g. Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with integration technologies (APIs, Kafka, event streaming) and enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience working in large, complex organisations delivering transformation programs

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
