Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.
What you’ll be doing:
Working closely with the General Manager Financial Planning & Analysis, you'll play a key role in supporting enterprise-wide decision making through high-quality financial analysis, investment evaluation and strategic planning. You'll partner with senior leaders across the business to assess opportunities, challenge assumptions and provide clear recommendations that drive value creation and support Virgin Australia's long term growth objectives.
As the lead analyst on high-impact initiatives, you'll support CFO, Executive Leadership Team and Board level decisions through robust financial modelling, business case development and performance analysis. You'll build and maintain models covering major investments, fleet planning, network and route economics, capital allocation decisions and long term financial planning, translating complex data into actionable commercial insights.
You'll evaluate strategic initiatives and investment opportunities using key financial metrics including NPV, IRR, ROIC, payback period, cash flow returns and liquidity impacts, while assessing funding, capital and risk implications. You'll develop scenario models and sensitivity analysis across key business drivers including demand, yield, fuel, foreign exchange, fleet utilisation, capital expenditure and financing assumptions.
The role will contribute to executive and Board materials, support long-term planning and investment governance processes, analyse business performance against plan and forecast, and identify risks, opportunities and key value drivers across the organisation. Working across Finance, Strategy, Network, Fleet, Commercial and Operations teams, you'll influence decision making through trusted business partnering, commercial judgement and evidence-based analysis.
You'll also help drive continuous improvement through automation, advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools that enhance modelling, reporting, scenario analysis and executive decision support while maintaining strong governance, accuracy and financial control.
You’ll be great in this role if you:
- Come with 5+ years' experience in corporate finance, investment banking, transaction services or commercial finance
- Have proven ownership of a group-level or enterprise model — built and maintained as a single source of truth for value, returns and capital structure (such as a group valuation model, long-range plan or three-way operating model)
- Can demonstrat advanced financial modelling skills, including integrated financial statements, valuation, investment appraisal, scenario analysis, liquidity forecasting and long-term planning models
- Are experienced in evaluating investments using NPV, IRR, ROIC, payback period, cash flow analysis and capital allocation frameworks
- Bring experience in corporate development, M&A or capital markets including valuation, due diligence, funding structures or equity-story work
- Have supported asset investment, network planning, business unit economics, major capital projects or strategic initiatives
- Can prepare executive-level presentations, Board papers and decision-support materials
Bonus points if you have experience in aviation, transport, infrastructure, loyalty or consumer-facing industries; have supported Board or Executive level decision making; or bring an understanding of airline economics, including route profitability, network planning, fleet economics, RASK, CASK, yield management, fuel and foreign exchange drivers, capital planning and major investment or transformation programs.
