 (Iteration Manger)  - Role title - Delivery Lead -  Velocity

What you’ll be doing…

As the Delivery Lead -  Velocity you will lead our squad of microservice engineers in the design, build, release and maintenance of  integrations that support our Velocity rewards program both internally and across our partner network. This role holds accountability for staff management, iteration management, backlog grooming, squad performance, initiative delivery and component health.

This Delivery Lead role plays a critical part in shaping how API capabilities are delivered and embedded across Virgin Australia and our Velocity network. While predominantly focused on delivery management, the Delivery Lead will also drive the estimation of new initiatives, source the best talent from the market, set the tone and culture for their team and stive to keep Velocity’s suite of APIs up-to-date, modern and free of vulnerabilities.

In this role you will report through to the Head of Integrations, Technology Platforms. This role will preferably be Sydney based however we are open to Brisbane provided you can travel.

Key Responsibilities…

  • Line management of delivery resources within assigned squads. 
  • Commercial management of vendors providing resources to assigned squads including contract administration, invoice review, performance management, service level objective measurement and performance improvement program management where necessary. 
  • Budget management for assigned squads to ensure financial objectives of delivery are met or exceeded. 
  • Tweaking and evolving ways of working and delivery processes to ensure delivery within the VA and squad context is optimized. 
  • Resource management for assigned squads/teams to ensure recharge targets for staff are met at all times. 
  • Ownership of initiative estimation bringing together input from various technical experts to form an agreed view of budgetary and timeline requirements which can be included in business cases. 
  • Crafting and driving the approval of project change requests where necessary to ensure assigned squads are working within agreed budgetary, scope and milestone guardrails at all times. 
  • Delivery tracking including budgetary, scope, and timeline tracking against original estimates and agreed changes to baseline. 
  • Ensuring forward forecasts and actuals are tracked and up-to-date and that estimate to completion is regularly communicated to stakeholders and assigned squads position is known at all times. 
  • Managing and grooming backlogs, engaging with stakeholder to negotiate and agree priorities and keeping the team engaged, productive and continually improving. 
  • Keeping an eye on platform health and where possible delivering change in a way that also keeps integration assets fresh, clean, up-to-date and vulnerability free.
  • Leading last-line of support efforts for complex operational issues involving integration assets where standard BAU teams require deep expertise to resolve complex issues and bugs.
  • Maintaining a roster of last-line support within the squad in line with a DevOps mindset to ensure appropriate technical expertise is available at all times to lean-in on complex production incidents and cyber incidents to assist our level 1 and level 2 support teams.

You will be great in this role if you have…

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Project Management / Agile certification; experience with Scaled Agile
  • 5+ years delivering complex backend software engineering projects in commercial environments
  • Experience successfully delivering and operating cloud-based, hyperscaling software solutions on containerisation platforms such as EKS
  • Strong experience across Agile, Iterative and Waterfall delivery
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and presenting to senior leaders
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change and Agile adoption
  • Effective working with managed services and offshore suppliers
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong leadership, delivery focus and commitment to quality
  • Proficient with Jira, Confluence, MS Teams and MS Project Online
  • Knowledge of PM standards, change management, risk/issue management
  • Understanding of modern software development and integration practices
  • Familiarity with ITIL, release cycles, privacy and data protection requirements
  • Airline or loyalty industry experience (desirable)
