Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing…

As the Integration Production Operations Leader, you’ll lead the teams responsible for the 24x7 operation, stability and continuous improvement of our integration platforms. These platforms underpin critical airline operations, connecting enterprise systems and partners through APIs, microservices and event-driven data streaming technologies.

This is a leadership role focused on operational excellence, incident management, platform resilience and security. You’ll play a key role in shaping the evolution of our integration landscape, influencing platform strategy and ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable and future-ready.

Working closely with business leaders, delivery teams and vendors, you’ll drive both day-to-day operational performance and longer-term improvements, balancing stability with innovation.

Reporting to the Head of Integration, this role is based at our Brisbane Head Office.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team delivering 24x7 production support across integration platforms
  • Own the reliability, performance, security and availability of APIs, microservices and event-driven services
  • Provide leadership during major incidents, including after-hours escalation when required
  • Manage operational backlogs, enhancements and preventative maintenance to continuously improve platform performance
  • Lead the introduction of AI Ops into the group to leverage new AI technologies to monitor, triage and escalate leading indicators of failure prior to service disruption.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to deliver simple, effective and scalable solutions to complex problems
  • Influence platform strategy and contribute to integration architecture and technology roadmaps
  • Manage vendors, SLAs and service performance, ensuring strong governance and accountability
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, monitoring, observability and modern DevOps practices
  • Drive cost-effective operations and contribute to forecasting and optimisation of platform support costs

You will be great in this role if you have…

  • 5+ years’ experience supporting business-critical systems in complex, large-scale environments
  • Proven leadership of operational, platform or SRE-style technology teams
  • Strong experience with cloud-native platforms (containers, and auto scaling Kubernetes clusters)
  • Hands-on knowledge of APIs, microservices and event-driven integrations (e.g. REST, Kafka)
  • Experience with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, observability and automation
  • Strong understanding of API lifecycle, platform governance and security practices
  • Confidence leading major incidents and engaging with senior stakeholders
  • Experience managing vendors and service performance (SLAs, KPIs)
  • Experience leveraging AI Ops tooling to improve service levels desirable
  • Airline, transport or large enterprise experience desirable

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
