What you’ll be doing:

The Business Development Lead is crucial in helping Virgin Australia Business Flyer (VABF) reach its growth targets by fostering new and dynamic partnerships. Reporting to the Head of Business Development and working closely with the Head of SME Loyalty and other Business Development Leads, this role will focus on identifying and pursuing new business opportunities to drive revenue and expand the program. The Lead will target verticals where the current coalition of partners is underrepresented. Additionally, the Business Development Lead will be key in shaping and implementing the partnership strategy for the program, ensuring effective and commercially sound agreements with partners.

  • Identify and pursue high-value strategic partnership opportunities to support Velocity’s growth priorities.
  • Build and maintain a strong business development pipeline focused on new commercial opportunities.
  • Develop compelling partner propositions and business cases that clearly articulate value and commercial impact.
  • Lead end-to-end deal execution, including negotiation, commercial structuring and contract close.
  • Partner with senior internal stakeholders to align opportunities with broader business and loyalty strategy.
  • Use market insight, competitor intelligence and industry trends to inform business development activity.
  • Represent Velocity with credibility in senior external conversations and C-suite engagements.

You’ll be great in this role if you:

  • 7+ years’ commercial business development experience in financial services, payments, fintech, loyalty or closely related sectors.
  • Proven track record of securing and growing strategic partnerships, ideally including multi-million-dollar deals.
  • Strong understanding of the financial services landscape, with card issuing and payments experience highly valued.
  • Ability to identify, shape and close high-value opportunities through a consultative, insight-led approach.
  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to build compelling business cases and quantify partner value.
  • Experience leading end-to-end deal execution, from prospecting and proposition development through to negotiation and contract close.
  • Ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives and internal cross-functional teams.
  • Strong network within financial services, with the ability to build and maintain senior external relationships.
  • Commercially astute with a strong understanding of market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
  • High resilience, strong communication skills and the ability to operate in a fast-moving, growth-focused environment.

Please note: This is a 12-month opportunity with potential to extend.
