Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.
What you’ll be doing
You will lead the technology strategy, direction, investment planning and implementation of performant platform architecture for our integration fabric connecting systems, suppliers, partners and customers to Virgin's distributed, cloud-based system landscape. You will also aid with strategic planning across our automation technologies and provide guidance and direction to shape solutions towards either enterprise-grade integration or rapid, lightweight automation-based solutions. You will also ensure that our microservices, Kafka and RPA technologies are used effectively within any proposed technology solutions and in alignment with VA’s technology standards.
To succeed, you will be an experienced architect coming from a software development background who has first hand experience defining, sequencing and estimating multi-year technology strategies and large scale programs of work across integration and cloud based software deployment technologies such as EKS, Java, Kafka and AWS and while you have experience with these technologies and stay across advances in the industry, you are equally comfortable developing compelling technology roadmaps and investment plans that you use to build support and secure ongoing investment.
You'll be selecting key integration and automation technologies, guiding solution architects to define project architectures that support your roadmap and shaping new initiatives to ensure we unlock the most value possible from new and existing technologies alike.

- Maintain awareness of any related technology roadmaps and reference architectures, VA’s latest technology standards and security/compliance requirements (e.g. Privacy, GDPR, PCI, etc), to help ensure platform usage is appropriate and secure by design
- Collaborate closely with Solution Architects to propose technology solutions that make best use of integration and automation platforms and that conform to both the overall business/technology strategies and VA’s technology standards
- Support the estimation of the cost to implement and run any proposed solutions (e.g. for Business Cases)
- Participate in any architecture governance/delivery processes and champion these with any relevant business and technology stakeholders

- 10+ years' experience in information technology, ideally with at least 3+ years in architecture owning a particular domain or platform space
- Background in software development prior to moving into architecture
