Hello. We're Virgin Australia. We're the airline that's always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We're on a mission to make flying better than 'nice'. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety -- in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.
What you'll be doing:
This Senior Associate, Strategy & Planning position is a newly created role to support our new, Integrated Planning team that is part of our Strategy & Transformation division. You will play a pivotal role in supporting Virgin Australia's Integrated Planning transformation by analysing strategic planning scenarios, operational and schedule planning processes, uncovering efficiency opportunities, and developing strategic insights. You'll work independently on strategic planning analyses across multiple time horizons, from seasonal schedule planning to long-term strategic questions.
Leveraging your analytical expertise and technical skills, you'll create data-driven insights that support Virgin Australia's transition to new planning cycles, moving beyond traditional network design to focus on operational execution excellence. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our company's success as we continue our exciting growth journey!
Further responsibilities:
- This role requires sharp analytical skills, structured problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to understand complex operational systems
- You'll translate operational, commercial, and competitor data into strategic insights and evaluate planning trade-offs
- Communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders from front-line operations to executive leadership
- Your work will directly inform strategic planning decisions that improve our on-time performance, reduce costs, support sustainable growth, and shape our long-term strategic direction
- Conduct advanced financial and operational modelling for planning initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-divisional teams on analytics projects to advance integrated planning capabilities
- Structure ambiguous operational or strategic problems, to create a hypothesis and then work independently to find a favourable solution to recommend to the business
You'll be great in this role if you have
- A degree in Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
- 3–4 years’ experience in management consulting (MBB preferred), investment banking, corporate strategy, or operational improvement
- Experience structuring ambiguous operational or strategic problems and driving to solutions independently (structured problem-solving and hypothesis-driven thinking)
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. You can navigate ambiguity, work across large datasets, and distil complexity into clarity
- Advanced Excel modelling and data analysis skills
- Strong communication and storytelling ability, with experience developing executive-level presentations that drive decisions
- A proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
