What you’ll be doing

We are recruiting three Manager, Technical Solutions positions to align to our three key IT verticals (Commercial, Operations and  Loyalty & Corporate). These roles are accountable for "building the solution right" and "enabling opportunities from technology" to deliver exceptional customer value. You will partner with the Program and Product leaders to form an autonomous leadership triad that drives sustainable, scalable technical solutions aligned to business outcomes and Virgin Australia's strategic transformation.

The Technology organisation is transforming from project-based delivery to a product and platform operating model with persistent, autonomous business domains and platform teams. This role is a cornerstone of this transformation, providing technical leadership within the new model to accelerate Virgin Australia's strategic goals through modern engineering practices and platform thinking.

This role will have direct reports which could include Solution Architects, Domain Architects, Quality Engineers and Technical Leads, as well as dotted line relationships with teams in Data & Integration. 

Further responsibilities include: 

  • Define division technical strategy and road-map aligned to business outcomes
  • Drive architectural excellence and technical health of all division assets
  • Lead technical investment decisions and technology choices
  • Drive effective quality engineering practices and deliverables
  • Sponsor and enable technical go-lives and transition to support through strong leadership and practices
  • Form effective leadership triad with Delivery and Product leaders
  • Collectively own division outcomes, backlog, and autonomous decision-making
  • Represent technical perspective in strategic planning and governance
  • End-to-end ownership of technical assets enabling business capabilities
  • Drive platform thinking and reusable technical solutions
  • Lead legacy modernisation and technical debt management
  • Champion modern engineering practices and automation
  • Build persistent technical capabilities and retain specialist airline knowledge
  • Enterprise Integration - partner with Enabler teams (Architecture, Security, Engineering) to maintain standards and acceptance

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Senior technology leadership in complex, regulated environments (10+ years progressive technology leadership experience)
  • Experience in organisational transformation and operating model change
  • Track record of building platform-based technical strategies
  • Experience with modern cloud architectures and engineering practices
  • Technical architecture and platform design expertise
  • Executive communication and stakeholder influence
  • Team development and culture transformation experience
  • Knowledge of; enterprise architecture and platform patterns, as well as cloud-native development and DevOps practices
  • Experience with Agile and lean engineering methodologies
  • Experience with API-first and micro-services architectures
