What you’ll be doing 

The Head of Technology Platforms plays a key leadership role in shaping the strategic direction of VA’s technology domains, ensuring they align with our overall investment strategy and road-map. This is a senior, high-impact position reporting directly to our Chief Information Officer. 

In this role, you’ll lead several critical IT functions (including Data, Integration, Infrastructure, and Software Engineering), through a team of experienced direct reports: Head of Data, Head of Integration, Head of Infrastructure, Head of Digital Engineering, and the Manager of Data Governance. 

We’re looking for someone who brings deep experience leading large-scale data or software engineering functions and understands what “great” looks like in these areas. You’ll use your strong technical insight and leadership to shape the strategy and drive the continued evolution of these teams. 

Further responsibilities:  

  • As a member of the IT Leadership Team, contribute to the development and execution of the IT strategy, road-map, and annual planning cycles  
  • Drive shared service platform evolution and technical capability improvements  
  • Lead the development of platform product road-maps and capability development strategies (Data, Engineering and API) 
  • Balance platform investment with business division needs and enterprise technical strategy  
  • Collaborate with other division Technology leaders to ensure adoption of architecture, delivery, security and engineering standards to drive quality, cohesion and speed to market  
  • Facilitate platform capability sharing and reuse across the enterprise 
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks and issues across Platforms  
  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing platforms teams  
  • Develop talent through persistent team structures and clear career pathways and development 

You’ll be great in this role if you have… 

  • 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience in large-scale enterprise environments, as well as early career experience in software engineering, data or similar.  
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a software engineering function 
  • Proven experience building and scaling technology platforms in enterprise 
  • Proven track record of leading digital transformation initiatives and technology strategy development   
  • Experience with agile and traditional delivery methodologies in complex organizational settings  
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management across multiple business divisions 
  • Experience managing technology budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships 
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams 
  • Experience in measuring and optimizing platform adoption and success metrics 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in fast-paced, dynamic environments 
  • Strong knowledge of IT governance frameworks, enterprise architecture, and technology strategy development
