What you’ll be doing
The Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in a growing team to unlock value from our data, enable rich data-driven customer experiences, and drive measurement and insights to help Virgin Australia become the most loved airline in Australia.
- Drive our analytical engineering transformation, including the adoption of new capabilities within our Databricks platform, uplifting analytical data models, increasing automation, and growing data value — all while maintaining a strong focus on data reliability, governance, and security.
- Enable customer and commercial insights through shared analytical data products that underpin dashboards, self-service analytics, advanced analytics, and data science.
- Mentoring and collaboration with other Data Engineers in the team.
- Lead the execution of our Analytics Engineering Roadmap, partnering with Technology and Data Platform teams to advance enterprise capabilities.
- Contribute to new revenue initiatives across Virgin Australia, Velocity Frequent Flyer, and our commercial partners.
You’ll be great in this role if you have
- 8–10 years of experience developing analytical solutions within large relational database environments
- 5+ years working with complex customer data and building data solutions that solve real business problems
- 3+ years’ experience with event and customer interaction data and/or streaming sources
- Demonstrable experience in customer data on large data platform (Relational Database or Cloud Analytics Platform) platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, GCP, AWS, or Azure (strongly preferred)
- Proven experience building data products, integrating diverse data sources, automating processes, and solving complex data problems
- A proactive team player with strong data warehousing & data visualization fundamentals.
- Hands on experience in SQL & Python implementing end-to-end ETL processes.
- Strong communication skills — able to translate data insights into clear, actionable business outcomes
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence and lead across distributed teams, even outside of formal reporting structures
