What you’ll be doing

The Technical Lead, will champion industry best practice, solutions, and technologies, and have superior skills in delivering automated data supply chains, combining, transforming, and enriching data from multiple sources to provide value for Business consumers. The role requires effective relationship management across numerous internal and external stakeholders and service providers, ensuring alignment across various business drivers and objectives. To succeed, you will be flexible in your approach, be able to prioritise and handle the dynamic changes of the industry, and build sustainable business and internal IT relationships.

  • Use your strong experience Databricks and cloud-based data platforms. You will also use AWS
  • Establish technology standards and guidelines for data projects
  • Responsible for leading the detailed technical design of high-level, data-centric, solutions 
  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, and leadership to software developers and data engineers on a per-project basis
  • Engagement with other technology areas required for delivery of the solution where appropriate (Cloud, Integration, Cyber)
  • Review code and assist in implementation and hands-on development
  • Remain on the forefront of advances in technologies and look out for opportunities
  • Assist stakeholders with requirements and solutions for transformational projects
  • Identify opportunities to optimise the use of cloud infrastructure and service usage
  • Seek opportunities for improvements and champion changes to technology, identifying and developing automation opportunities
  • Provide indirect leadership to users of Virgin Australia’s data platforms, maximising the value of the data asset
  • Seek cost saving opportunities

You’ll be great in this role if you…

  • Experience with AWS, Databricks, DBT, and Kafka, as well as SQL, Spark and Python. 
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas clearly
  • Experience in leading and implementing data solutions in complex environments
  • Experience with data streaming, real-time data solutions, and enabling real - time decisions
  • Strong work ethic and ability to lead by example
  • Work autonomously with the ability to drive your own work plan
  • Ability to work with differing stakeholders, including external stakeholders. You quickly build relationships with others and you are ably to influence others. 
  • Knowledge of data management fundamentals and principles 
  • Familiarity with privacy laws, data protection, and information security regulations, and frameworks, such as GDPR, and APRA
