Social Media Specialist

What you’ll be doing:  

As the PR & Social Media Specialist you are the Group’s expert social media lead, championing the social media team in proactive and reactive community management and organic content posting while assisting with content creation to drive engagement across owned and earned channels.  


In this position, you will ensure the Group is taking advantage of the latest social media trends and pop culture while having a role in supporting the Consumer PR team in day-to-day media events and activities as well as playing a role in media issues management, and crisis management.  


In addition, you will: 

  • Develop and implement a new social media strategy to increase brand health and share of voice.  

  • Lead Social Media & Content Coordinators (community managers) to produce high-quality, timely, and engaging responses to Virgin Australia social media followers in accordance with tone of voice guidelines.  

  • Create, publish and moderate in-feed content to raise awareness of key Virgin Australia Group activities on all channels (social media, digital, media, internal)  

  • Create impactful PR & social media campaigns to enhance the brand and reputation of Virgin Australia Group. 

  • Support internal and external issues critical to the reputation for the Group and its leaders, and develop external and internal communications plans to support.  

  • Write and edit social media copy, press releases, pitches, speeches, scripts, internal notes to staff, briefing notes, and related materials.  

  • Support the Social Media Coordinator roster pattern in the event of unplanned leave or disruption.  


Whom we’re looking for:  

  • 5+ years’ experience in social media and content or similar.  

  • Extensive experience leading a social media team  

  • Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills 

  • Proven results building a social media audience, driving engagement and results  

  • Extensive experience directing, filming, photographing, and editing content along with proficiency with video and photo editing tools.  

  • Passionate storyteller across multiple channels  

  • Experience work issues rich fast-paced environment.  

  • Experience managing a team
