What you’ll be doing:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a complex environment, where you can utilise your skillset in strategic development and passion for driving and informing what needs to be done. The objective of the Manager, Strategy and Portfolio Planning role is to plan, develop and execute an IT strategy that is aligned to VA's transformation objectives and reflective of business needs; considering IT departmental goals, processes, and resource allocations. Bringing together multiple lenses such as divisional business requirements and priorities, VA transformation objectives, current technology landscape, industry trends, etc. from various internal and external sources in order to develop strategic options. With the VA strategy team you will develop and govern the IT portfolio from business outcomes, overall budget, benefit realisation, workforce planning, prioritisation perspective and provide insights on industry trends, market analysis and technical expertise.

Key responsibilities -

  • Manage IT portfolio including IT Investment, business case and initiative prioritisation in conjunction with the business and IT leadership team
  • Develop and govern the IT portfolio from business outcome, overall budget, benefit realisation, workforce planning, prioritisation perspective
  • Drive and maintain clarity in the strategic level portfolio and roadmap 
  • Drive planning of prioritised roadmap initiatives via the Quarterly strategic portfolio planning process 
  • Manage and report on portfolio delivery and roadmap execution
  • Report strategic roadmap resourcing/financial KPIs
  • Resource capacity modelling and planning 
  • Refine and align IT strategy with VA's transformation objectives and divisional goals

The ideal candidate:

You have come from Big 4 or a top tier firm, where your knowledge and passion for tech consulting, and strategy and operations has evolved your abilities for strategic thinking, whilst working in a complex and changing environment.  

You have a passion for IT Strategy, Innovation and Emerging Technologies, paired with a demonstrated experience in strategy development, specifically execution in IT strategy development and solution design. You will acquire working knowledge of an IT environment composition, industry leading technologies, market trends, project management methodology and frameworks. Having worked in a large scale IT transformation, you are confident in managing portfolios and working in complex stakeholder environments. 

Experience and skills

  • Experience in IT risk management (2nd line or 3rd line)
  • Outstanding communication, influencing and relationship management skills 
  • The ability to maintain a high-level, customer-focused, strategic outlook but get into the detail when it is required 
  • Leading technology projects/program with a deep understanding of project /program management challenges and methodologies
  • A broad knowledge of various IT technical domains 
  • The ability to translate between technical concepts and business benefits
  • Portfolio management including resource capacity modelling and planning (would be desirable)
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline - Information Technology, Information System, Business Information, Business Management
  • Experience in Big 4 or top tier
