About the role

We now have the rare opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Sydney team! You will support or initiate development of processes to source, clean, integrate and manage data from Velocity and Virgin Australia data warehouses, and from 2nd + 3rd party data partners in line with an overarching data/infrastructure strategy.  The outcome will be to build a highly available analytical data asset, with robust, flexible automated processes and to maintain and improve its quality over time.  

No two days are the same at Velocity. You will be challenged, be part of a great team and have a lot of fun along the way through: 

  • Assisting in the design of automated ETL processes to source, clean, integrate and manage the analytical data asset
  • Supporting in planning technology infrastructure to store and process large amounts of data using a hybrid ecosystem of internal databases and public/private cloud ecosystem
  • Collect and understand current/future requirements of the Data sciences team from following perspectives: modelling, reporting, data visualization, BAU and ad-hoc insights, and product development/automation
  • Building processes to monitor and audit automated ETL processes and ensure industry best practice in data management  

What you’ll need

You've got a background in Computer Science/ Engineering, IT or Mathematics and extensive experience building ETL processes within a MS BI stack (minimum 5 years). You are imaginative and look for ways to develop automated and flexible ETL workflows ensuring technical documentation and data quality checks and audits are maintained.

You are happy to get your hands dirty in shell scripting and coding in SAS.  You thrive in creating and monitor robust scheduled processes that utilise many languages across many platforms. You enjoy a corporate and commercial environment, managing multiple internal and external stakeholders and genuinely influencing outcomes. You're a self-starter with an inquisitive, analytical mind and with a high level of computer literacy and love cutting edge technologies.
